Chairman Wontumi Faints, Rushed To The Hospital During EOCO Interrogation

Chairman Wontumi Fainted and Rushed To the Hospital during interrogation at the EOCO office in Accra.

The embattled Ashanti Regional chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has been rushed to the hospital.

This was after he had fallen ill while being probed by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra.

His lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, confirmed to the media in the late hours of Tuesday, May 27, 2025. However, he refused to disclose to the public the name or location of the hospital where  Chairman Wontumi is receiving treatment.

“I know where he is, but I am not going to disclose the hospital. But all that I can say is that my client has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment,” lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi spoke to the media.

He continued to say that the interrogation of Chairman Wontumi by the EOCO hasn’t come to an end. “We have given our statements. They made some allegations against him, and he responded to them. We haven’t finished with the interrogation, so we will come back to continue hopefully [Wednesday] if his condition improves. Otherwise, he will stay there until the doctors discharge him, then we come back to continue the interrogation,” he explained.

Lawyer Appiah Kubi added that they have received a writ of summons from Exim Bank and will respond to the pleadings tomorrow.

“I am very hopeful that we will be able to mount a defence of the writ. We have received the writ of summons from Exim Bank,” he added.

The EOCO arrested Chairman Wontumi after accepting an invitation from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police over an alleged illegal mining.
