Ethiopia is on an ambitious plan to construct one of Africa’s tallest buildings, a 62-storey headquarters for Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) in its capital, Addis Ababa.

This initiative was previously announced in 2023 but was halted due to financial and logistical challenges. The EEP is estimated to cost $445 million and will become the tallest building in sub-Saharan Africa.

The building is located near the Mexico Square in the capital’s Kirkos district. The tower will span 197,800 square meters and rise to 327.5 meters, surpassing the commercial Bank of Ethiopia’s 209-meter headquarters.

Ethiopian Electric Power is actively seeking construction companies that have solid financial standing and proven technical expertise for a project development.
