Ghanaian retired boxer, Bukom Banku, has publicly expressed his deep sorrow over the 15-year prison sentence with hard labor handed to Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
The former traditional priestess turned evangelist and founder of Heaven Way Champion Ministry was convicted by the Accra Circuit Court on July 3, 2025, for charges including charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by pretense.
In a heartfelt video circulating on social media, Bukom Banku is seen overwhelmed with emotion, shedding tears as he reacts to the court’s decision. He described the sentence as excessively harsh and called upon the nation’s leadership to consider clemency.
“Ghanaians the Agradaa’s case is very painful to me, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the father of the Nation, if even Nana Agradaa has sinned against you, please forget it and forgive her. 15 years of jail with hard labor is too harsh on her.” Bukom Banku lamented.
While acknowledging the gravity of Agradaa’s actions, Bukom Banku emphasized the importance of forgiveness, invoking the adage, “To err is human; to forgive, divine.” He urged the President and the judiciary to show compassion, suggesting that a reduced sentence would still serve justice while allowing for rehabilitation.
Nana Agradaa’s conviction stems from a 2022 televised broadcast in which she falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers to double money, leading several individuals to part with large sums in hopes of miraculous financial returns.
The court’s ruling has been hailed by many as a significant step in combating fraudulent spiritual schemes.
