On August 6, 2025, Ghana was plunged into mourning following a devastating military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The incident claimed the lives of eight individuals, including prominent government officials and military personnel.

In response to this national tragedy, the government has directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast until further notice, as a mark of respect for the departed souls.

– Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
– Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
– Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala – Pilot
– Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu – Co-pilot
– Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – Crew Member
The Ghana Armed Forces have confirmed that the Z-9 military helicopter departed from Accra en route to Obuasi for official duties when it lost contact and subsequently crashed. Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the crash.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, in a press briefing, expressed the government’s deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He emphasized the nation’s collective grief and the significant contributions of the deceased to Ghana’s development.
This incident marks one of the most significant losses in Ghana’s recent history, prompting nationwide tributes and a period of reflection on the dedication of public servants to national service.
