Former vice president and the defeated NPP flagbearer for the 2024 general election, Dr. Bawumia, has said that “if Mahama could become the president of Ghana again, then it is possible that the NPP can regain power in 2028.
Speaking at a conference, the former vice president cited the instances of John Agyekum Kuffour, Prof Evan Atta Mills, and Akuffo Addo’s election records, detailing how the aforementioned presidents performed in their previous elections before becoming presidents of Ghana.
Giving himself the hope that he will surely win power for the NPP and become the president of Ghana, per the history of Ghana’s election results.

“Looking at 1996, President J. A Kuffour didn’t win the elections, he had 39%. I visited him and he consoled me to be strong. So my 41% is better than his 39%, but he came from 39% to win the elections in 2000. So it is possible,” he said.
He continued saying, “President Mills in 2000 had 43% and 44% in 2004, but in 2008, he was able to get more than 50% and became the president of Ghana. It was the same with Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo in 2008 and 2012. But he came back to win the elections in 2016.”
“In 2016, John Mahama lost the election by over 1 million votes. Who would have thought he would become the president of Ghana? He came back in 2020 and lost again, but in 2024, he was voted the president of Ghana. So if Mahama could become the president of Ghana again, then it is possible that the NPP can win power in 2028,” said the former vice president.
Dr. Bawumia is hopeful that the NPP will regain power in 2028.
In other news, the former vice president had said that “he believes by 2028, Ghanaians will be calling on the NPP to come and rescue them from the NDC.”
